Thirty-six years on, "Stairway to Heaven" appears on Top 40

Jimmy Page was famously opposed to releasing Zep songs as singles, and thus "Stairway to Heaven" which is perennially voted number one rock song of all time, never actually appeared on the top 40. However, an unintended side-effect of the digital release of Zeppelin's catalog is that a la carte purchasers of "Stairway to Heaven" (which are counted in the UK charts apparently) have put the song on the charts:

Led Zeppelin entered the UK Top Forty singles chart today (November 18) at Number 37 with their song 'Stairway To Heaven'. The band had made their back catalogue available to download earlier this week, hence the new chart entry.
