Facebook to create music platform (with iTunes integration)

Tech gossip site ValleyWag reports on the rumors that Facebook will create a music store.

Watch out MySpace: Facebook to launch a platform for musicians - Valleywag

Instead of a music store, Facebook is said to be launching an artist platform to compete with MySpace's musician platform that has been a huge part of their growth. Ali says that the platform also includes iTunes integration for buying music through iTunes, special profiles for bands and unique widgets for music promotion, tour dates, and more, all within the clean Facebook interface.
This makes a certain amount of sense; after all Apple has a very nice e-commerce infrastructure that is a proven commodity. Apple and Facebook have certain advantages in collaboration in that they are located in the same area (Facebook in Palo Alto, Apple in Cupertino) and have similar design sensibility. On the other hand, would Apple be willing to potentially alienate its record label, since the end game for a Facebook music platform is the complete irrelevance of the record labels.
