Doug Martsch talks about the next Built To Spill album

Indie legends Built to Spill to blow minds Tuesday

"I'm kind of on the fence right now about whether or not we want a record of a bunch of soft songs," he says. "That's where we happen to be right now. So in a way, I think we should just do it. But in a way, I also think 'Who wants to listen to a bunch of soft songs?' Maybe people do. Another thing I think about is when we play live, I don't mind the soft songs, but I think it's boring to the audience. The live show should be mostly rocking songs. But we only have to have a couple rock songs. We can play those and maybe play one of the soft songs. So there's ways around it. When you're doing this kind of stuff, you always second-guess yourself."
